  • It Is Not Just A Paycheck!

That Payroll Guy! No...really, that is our guest for this episode. That Payroll Guy, Gerard Hall, CPP, is a payroll professional that helps you, me and many others understand their paycheck. Most importantly, he helps other professionals run their business or organization's payroll following regulations, laws, and with 100% accuracy.

But what makes him and his story interesting is that Gerard is in a predominantly white female industry changing the game! He didn't decide to go into payroll when he attended Virginia Tech. He started in Computer Science because that is the college major he thought would "bring in the money"...many of us do.

Listen to how Gerard has taken something we see every two weeks (your paycheck) and has made it into a topic that can be quite sexy - I mean, getting paid accurately 100% of the time is not a small task for all the payroll professionals out there!

I ask...have you thanked your payroll professionals in your business or organization lately?

Take a listen to Gerard Hall, CPP! He speaks, educates, and consult to help others in the payroll industry!...including YOU!

  • Gen X Has Something To Say...So Listen Up!

Thomas Payne, President and CFO of Urban Express Transportation, Inc. and Podcast Host of Gen X Has Something To Say and he said it!

This episode is simply two GenX'ers chatting it up and letting the world know how we leveled up in a hip-hop generation that was independent, vocal, flexible and today...a little exhausted, but not afraid of taking calculated risk and go for ours!

Can you relate? What do you have to say? LISTEN - this generation has had such an impact as we have seen more happen in society than any other generation, but as latch key kids we didn't have much direction, but look at us now!

We have changed how business is done, we parent our children differently than our parents, and even changed the dynamics of....may I dare say...church and the whole "religion" around it. (WHOA!)

GenXer's have something to say! Take a listen!

  • Cheers to the Liquor Industry: Taylor Jackson & "Redd Rose" Leveling Up!

Taylor Jackson “Redd” is a entrepreneur who decided to take an idea of owning her own liquor brand and turn it into her reality.

Taylor took her first steps to creating “Redd Rose” Vodka.  Redd Rose is a strawberry lemon flavored vodka that is so smooth and flavorful it can be sipped over ice – no chaser or mixer.

She is also the owner of Cocktail Catering - "Pour Mixology." But it hasn't been an easy road, however it has been one of many lessons, and many wins!

Taylor did not let all the laws, legalities, stereotypical biases hold her back. She dealt with genderism, sexism, ageism, and at times racism to create a BRAND that is all her own - the name and the liquor is hers. REDD ROSE is sold in 41 states!

Listen to Taylor's story as it is toast to her grandmother's legacy, but also one of triumph and has place Redd Rose as a vodka brand on the rise!

    Cheers!

  • Marriage, Money and My Family!

Season 2, Episode 1 is kicking off by continuing our conversation from last season! We spoke about how to level up in Marriage and Money. This season we have brought the children into the conversation! What lessons have they learned from the parental unit (me and my hubby!) and what misconceptions did they have? They even talk about how we are more lenient with our daughter (the youngest). Our son (the oldest) is trying to see how he can still get an allowance and how he thinks Dad is now more of a sneakerhead.

I think the biggest lesson for them is that money does not grow on that shady tree in our backyard and... Mom handles the wants and Dad tends to the needs.

We are building generational wealth but most importantly teaching our children financial literacy to be able to thrive in this world! Take a listen.

  • Marriage & Money: Its a mindset!

Let me share something with you - Couples that argue about finances at least once a week are 30 more likely to get divorced.

Listen…I am NOT arguing about money.

Our finances are JOINT.  And that takes TRUST. As much as we want to say “what is his is mine and what is mine is mine”…it doesn’t work that way (for us) in our marriage.

Oh, I know some folks will love this one! Marcus and I, chat about how our Money works in our Marriage! I manage the “wants”, he manages the “needs.”

Getting married changes your financial life in profound ways. It's not just that you're living together or sharing expenses—you don't need marriage to do that. And while your credit score remains individual, your future choices could be changed by what your spouse brings into the financial picture.

Before you exchange vows, it’s important that you and your partner each disclose your full financial circumstances to each other. Because marriage is a legal and financial decision—the government couldn’t care less how in love you are—you need to know what risks you are taking by binding yourself to another person.

    Gems we drop:

    ·      Partners should fully disclose their assets, liabilities, and credit reports to each other before marriage.

    ·      Financial decisions around wedding budgets will affect couples for years—for better or for worse.

    ·      Marriage can have major financial benefits, especially if you understand the best way to file your taxes as a couple.

    ·      Set up a college fund for your children when they are assigned a social security number (through  529!).

Listen to what works for us after almost 26 years!! #trust

  • Leveling Up In Finances: From Childhood to Adulthood!

As we grow up, we are determined to "not be like our parents."

But, let's be honest, there are gems that our parents have dropped as we were growing up and for me finances were a huge topic in our household...the good, the bad, and the ugly!

In this podcast, I have the pleasure of speaking with my daddy, Tony Rogers, on how he learned about finances. He went from a skinny kid, with antiquated teachings about money, going into the Air Force to a twice retired, debt-free Air-Force Captain/Corporate Executive at the age of 55!

My siblings and I called him CHEAP...then we went to FRUGAL...then we said, "This man actually knows what he is talking about...teach me."

I have gathered all the gems my dad has taught me about Finances (and cooking!) and I applied them to my life to create a lifestyle both my husband and I desire. We are now teaching these same lessons to our sons! We are shifting their money mindset!

Take a listen! (and stay tuned, my hubby and I talk about Marriage & Money in our next podcast!)

  • Leadership Outlook of GenZ (Part 2 of 2)

    Part Deux!

Let's continue  as Dr. Rosalyn Harrington, Dr. Dawn Nail, and Dr. Geleana Alston, all from HBCUs, speak on how the the pandemic disruption, racial disruptions, and political disruptions have changed how GenZ views the workforce  and the perspective they have of the leaders leading the charge.

We wrap up our conversation with leadership nuggets that these three would give their younger selves.

If we want the leadership outlook to become clearer, we have to give the incoming generation the room and the space to bring their innovative ideas, but remember that they are not leaders just yet, but still deserving of the chance to make an impact!

Enjoy part two and lean into your greatness. You may even have to listen to part one again!
