We spoke with Alexandra Leeper, PhD, who is managing director for innovation at Iceland’s Ocean Cluster in Reykjavik, which has been bringing together diverse companies that are creating value in the ocean ecosystem.  She told us about the Cluster’s growing “100% Fish” initiative, which is dedicated to supporting startups that find uses for fish material and byproducts that were formerly disposed of as waste.

We spoke this week with John Nicholas, the CEO of East Hampton Shucker.  John transformed his family's Long Island marina into an oyster pond, and has created a new device that takes some of the danger out of opening up live oysters.  His device clamps down on the oyster, allowing the shucker to safely open an oyster with a knife (without worrying about slicing open their hand).  We caught up with John recently to talk about his new product and the state of the union for oyster growers in the Northeast.

We're joined by Damian Ewens, the founder of Ocean State of Mind as well as a new consulting business focused on supporting the Blue Economy. He told us about an unusual project he’s been working on this summer.

We were thrilled to join famed undersea explorer Victor Vescovo to discuss his Five Deeps expedition; his thoughts on the future of ocean exploration; and more. 

Peter Baker, subsea product manager, with Australia-based Advanced Navigation, called in from Sydney to talk about HYDRUS – Advanced Navigation’s new “miniature undersea autonomous vessel” product that's small enough to serve as a carry-on item on most  flights. 

Drew Carey, co-founder and CEO of INSPIRE Environmental, joined the program to discuss INSPIRE Environmental’s recent study regarding fish population and catch activity near and around the Block Island Wind Farm. The study is the result of more than a decade of work and *seven years* of data collection.
