This message covers Romans 12:14-21.
As Christians, we are to think like Christ. We are to take his words, capture our thoughts, and change...being a different person tomorrow than we are today. If we do this as a body, we are of the same mindset.
What is the best way to respond to evil in a way that brings glory to Christ? Pause and give thought to what is honorable in the sight of all.
How do we overcome evil with good? If we are truly members of one another and we want to love one another, honor one another and have the same mind, we need to figure out in our own lives how to overcome evil with good. A bunch of people loving the unlovable, loving those who are behaving in an evil way...a group of people who recognize evil behavior even amongst themselves and make the commitment to no longer behave like that...that is a testimony to a community that may not know the love of Christ.
Life gets so simple (not easy!) when all you have to do is love. You don't have to carry around wrath, anger, bitterness and vengeance. Let that go, give it to God, be loving in circumstances that would normally control your life.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
