Blue Mountain Ridges

Listen Later

His world was the valley and the old mobile home
In the heart of the Key Stone State
In the mountains around as a kid he would roam
Never mind being poor seemed his fate
He was just seventeen when a sergeant came by
Talking army and money to spend
He didn't know why he said, why shouldn't I
And before he knew to the war he was sent
In that far away country it was hard to adjust
To the loom of the danger in the sand and the dust
He would do his duty but he had to confess
I long for my valley, I'm homesick I guess
Blue mountain ridges, whitewater streams
Red covered bridges, land of my dreams
It's red, white and blue and it sounds like a song
Pennsylvania is where I belong
On a hot desert day he was sent on patrol
In a slow moving convoy they wheeled
To an area thought to be under control
His humvee would do for a shield
The roadside explosion then must have occurred
For when he came to it was hell
His eyes couldn't see just how he was hurt
But oh, it looked pretty bad, he could tell
His buddies were pleading with him to hang on
But he just knew he was about to be gone
He whispered, you guys say a prayer for me
That I go to heaven and that heaven will be
Blue mountain ridges, whitewater streams
Red covered bridges, land of my dreams
It's red, white and blue and it sounds like a song
Pennsylvania is where I belong
The angels then took him, to heaven they flew
Where God said come look, I got something for you
Blue mountain ridges, whitewater streams
Red covered bridges, land of my dreams
It's red, white and blue and it sounds like a song
Pennsylvania is where I belong
