More cases of the latest weak omicron variant are being detected, partly because of widespread home testing. Dr. John Littel advises those experiencing symptoms, mostly a severe sore throat with this variant, not to panic and to seek advanced medical care only if symptoms become severe.

Littel further is pushing the State of Florida to proceed with legalizing non-prescription use of Ivermectin, similar to Tennessee. He recommends the medical community and patients to work to reduce government intervention in healthcare, which has soared during the pandemic.

And Littel has advice for parents worried about baby formula shortages, noting that there is a long list of alternatives.   

OPD Chief Mike Balken is frustrated by the numbers of shootings and gun crimes committed by repeat offenders. It's a "catch and release game". Balken is encouraging help from legislators, and a 21-day Hold Rule is still being discussed in Tallahassee.

Balken says there are no consequences for youth offenders, as though kids are being taught to be career criminals because there are no serious consequences. Juvenile repeat offenders are committing many of the city's drive-by shootings. The recidivism rate is extremely high...a recent arrest had been convicted of 20 prior shootings, and should have been behind bars with such a long criminal record. 

Many kids have broken homes, and mentoring programs can show examples of a better life. Big Brothers-Big Sisters have partnered with OPD and is a way to help kids in challenging home environments. Balken encourages citizens to give of their time to have a greater impact.

Segment 4 - Marion County Commissioner Carl Zalak highlighted the Kimberly Center's services to help abused and neglected children. Gov. Desantis presented Community Development Block Grant funding for the center in an appearance this week. Zalak also discussed increased county tourism, and the "Festival Of Speed" event at the World Equestrian Center, and the annual Mother's Day "Symphony Under The Stars" presented by Fine Arts For Ocala.
