Congressman Greg Stuebe on the Bob Rose Show talked about his efforts to support Florida's citrus industry. From the EPA holding up a possible new solution to citrus greening disease, to high diesel costs, to allowing Chinese citrus imports, the federal government is throwing up obstacles to the troubled industry that is a critical piece of Florida's economy.
One week from Title 42 being suspended, and an invasion of migrants threatens to overwhelm US border officials. Florida District 3 Rep. Kat Cammack makes the case for needing to secure the border. The Biden Administration has no solution to control the influx of migrants through the Mexico border.
Meanwhile, baby formula is available for migrants crossing the border as there are shortages across the US. Biden’s FDA shutdown an Abbott formula manufacturing plant, putting American’s last with no plan to bring in replacement supplies.
US troops are being sent to Somolia, with defense officials promising not to engage in fighting. Cammack decries the use of forces in places with no critical threat to the US.
The EPA is holding up approving a Citrus Greening solution, claiming a lack of funds to review the latest proposed and promising treatment. Saving Florida’s citrus industry is a high priority for all of the state’s bipartisan representatives in Congress, and Kammack is one of Florida’s leading agriculture proponents.
Cammack serves as the leading Republican for FEMA, and is working on meaningful hurricane season mitigation efforts to be sure local and state emergency management officials have needed resources.
More cases of the latest weak omicron variant are being detected, partly because of widespread home testing. Dr. John Littel advises those experiencing symptoms, mostly a severe sore throat with this variant, not to panic and to seek advanced medical care only if symptoms become severe.
Littel further is pushing the State of Florida to proceed with legalizing non-prescription use of Ivermectin, similar to Tennessee. He recommends the medical community and patients to work to reduce government intervention in healthcare, which has soared during the pandemic.
And Littel has advice for parents worried about baby formula shortages, noting that there is a long list of alternatives.
OPD Chief Mike Balken is frustrated by the numbers of shootings and gun crimes committed by repeat offenders. It's a "catch and release game". Balken is encouraging help from legislators, and a 21-day Hold Rule is still being discussed in Tallahassee.
Balken says there are no consequences for youth offenders, as though kids are being taught to be career criminals because there are no serious consequences. Juvenile repeat offenders are committing many of the city's drive-by shootings. The recidivism rate is extremely high...a recent arrest had been convicted of 20 prior shootings, and should have been behind bars with such a long criminal record.
Many kids have broken homes, and mentoring programs can show examples of a better life. Big Brothers-Big Sisters have partnered with OPD and is a way to help kids in challenging home environments. Balken encourages citizens to give of their time to have a greater impact.

The Food and Drug Administration is limiting use of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, warning of an elevated but rare blood clotting risk. But, is the FDA revealing trusted data on how well the vaccines have worked? Has the agency been transparent investigating side effects that many have experienced? If the government will mandate treatments, can they be trusted to publicize needed changes in recommendations that are counter to original regimens? What we know, what we should be told, and the un-American questions on FDA honesty, now on the Bob Rose Show podcast.
