Our guest this morning was Randy Schultz, fellow who has his finger on the pulse of the garden retail industry; he was here to let us know what might make great gifts for the gardeners in your life (hint, hint).
Among the sites that you might sample from would be the relatively new Home Garden and Homestead Dot Com.
Here is Beverley Tanem, starting off the hour with her list of Gardening Events in the Bay Area -- this week featuring a list of public gardens that are open.
Then, out's back to America's Happy Gardener himself; Bob Tanem; he's answering your calls for the rest of the hour.
Our guest at 8:30 this morning was garden writer Norman Draper; and today we got a bonafied Advance Peek Preview: Norman's new book, Backyard: The Book is due in stores on November 25 - though the author hinted that you might be able to find a copy in advance if you look in the right place.
Norman's books are fiction set in the garden; there's lots there for those with experience growing things: Bob Tanem is quite hooked, and already looking forward to a promised sequel.
Hour # Two starts with Bev Tanem, once again: Bev maintains a definitive list of Gardening Events throughout the bay area, and orates it weekly in this time slot.
Then it's Back to Bob, Tanem that is; America's Happy Gardener, here on KSFO.
Our guest this morning at 8:30 was Richard Cole, of Cole's Bird Feed. Richard's story is simple: he noticed that the birds were throwing 2/3rds of his store-bought birdseed on the ground. What Richard did, was formulate a blend of seeds that desirable birds actually want. Cole's Bird Feed was born: a high-quality product that birds actually like to eat, not spread on the ground.
Beverley Tanem starts out the hour with a list of gardening stuff happening all around the bay area in the weeks ahead; then it's right back to the phones with Bob Tanem on duty, taking calls!
Our 2nd hour starts once again with Beverley Tanem, and her now famous list of Gardening Events around the Bay Area. Then, it's Back To Bob Tanem, America's Happy Gardener, on KSFO!
Our guest this morning was Sidney Phelps, with Bonnie Plants Bonnie has a national program wherein they supply seeds and instructions to 3rd graders to grow a giant strain of cabbage -- then, they award a $1000 price in each of the contiguous U.S. states to a winning school gardener, to be spent on education!
Our guest this morning at 8:30 was Susan Day, Ph. D., Associate Professor at Virginia Tech. The topic: trees, landscaping, and especially mulch as it relates to soil health.
