This episode of BOLD is a little different, instead of Alex Yemeck interviewing members of the UST community, Darnell Miller, producer, turns the tables on Alex and sits down with the host to learn about him. Yemeck shares insights about moving from Cameroon to America, setting up a non-profit and some of the challenges of returning to school. He also shares the origin story of BOLD.

Darnell Miller, sitting in for host,  Alex Yemeck, talks to Cebriaya Bell, a junior pre-med psychology major, and Aerial Starks, senior English major, the acting president and vice president of the Black Student Union, about George Floyd, the protests, racism in America and how we can use education to combat this prejudice.

Host Alex Yemeck talks to Jackie Garza, a local social media sensation about how a single tweet changed the trajectory of her family's restaurant and bakery. Garza recounts the events leading up to the fateful tweet, the resulting tsunami of responses and how she learned to navigate the interview landscape. She goes on to share what she has learned through that experience and how her UST education has reinforced those lessons. Finally, Garza offers 4 tips to help people make the most of social media.

Nadin Fallah, student body president, speaks with host Alex Yemeck about her journey through student leadership. She shares her hesitance to getting involved on campus during her freshman year, how she initially became involved and how it fundamentally changed her student experience at UST. Fallah also shares what she has learned about being a servant leader and offers advice and insights as to how others can get involved and take advantage of the amazing student leadership opportunities at UST.

UST Alumnae, Luisa Banos and Alexis Kuri talk with Darnell Miller — in for Alex Yemeck — about their clothing company, Nour de la Garza. They talk about the challenges of starting a company, how social media has changed fashion and how their UST education comes in handy when they are trying new things. Finally, they share some tips for aspiring entrepreneurs who want to take a leap into starting their own business.

UST Alumni, lawyer and judge Michael Landrum ’73 speaks with Alex Yemeck about his experience attending UST in the 70’s. He shares how his liberal arts education has aided him across his career in law, serving him as a practitioner of law as well as a judge appointed by Rick Perry. Landrum also speaks about cultivating a rich spiritual life and how that influences how he approaches his profession.

Student and Veteran Luis Varela speaks with Alex Yemeck about his experience serving in the military. He shares insights about the sense of family the military offers, why he served and lessons he learned in the military. Varela also speaks on returning to civilian life, the role UST played in his family and why he decided to pursue a Master of Science in Applied Data Science after earning his bachelor's degree.

Students Elizabeth Luna and Caitlyn Carpenter talk with Alex Yemeck about Freshman Year Experience Study Abroad. They talk about traveling through Rome, seeing Pope Francis, and working with refugees in the heart of Rome. They share their favorite moments of the trip and tell us how Study Abroad has changed their outlook on life. Finally, Luna shares why students should consider studying abroad while Caitlyn shares how to raise the funds to participate in a study abroad trip.

Campus Minister Max Linnville talks with Alex Yemeck about what campus ministry has going on this year. They talk about service and a trip to Laredo on the Texas/Mexico border where students encountered Christ through the refugees seeking asylum in the US. Max shares his conversion to Catholicism and how his entire family experienced the love of Christ. Finally, he shares why everyone - not just Catholics - is welcome at campus ministry.
