Welcome to Episode 1 of the Bonded from the Start Podcast!
Every great partnership has a beginning, and ours starts right here. In this inaugural episode, we give you the inside scope on our "meet cute" story . We talk about how our paths crossed online, into how we bonded (literally bonded from the start!) from the world of early childhood development and perinatal mental health, and the exact moment we realized we needed to build this podcast together.
We discuss why bridging the gap between parental mental health and infant development is so vital and why we are so passionate about destroying the separate silos of parenting support.

Bonded from the Start is a podcast about perinatal mental health and infant and early childhood development — two fields that shape the same families and rarely get talked about in the same…
Hosted by Carina Lane, founder of Mindfulstarts, a parenting coach & perinatal therapist, and Laura Todd, founder of Early Bonds Therapy, a perinatal and infant/early childhood therapist. Each episode bridges what a parent is carrying and what a baby is communicating. Topics cover what we, as clinicians, run into every day through our work with individuals in this period, alongside other professionals who specialize in these topics.
We talk about matrescence, perinatal mental health conditions (PMHCs), attachment, co-regulation, responsive caregiving, and the postpartum months nobody prepares you for. It's a reflective lens holding space for both parent and infant to be seen as individuals and as a unit. All in language you can actually use.
If you're a parent, these are honest conversations that normalize the hard parts, make sense of your baby's behavior, and take the shame out of the days that feel like too much. If you're a clinician, birth worker, educator, home visitor, or early intervention provider, this podcast will provide relationship-based, reflective, culturally grounded practice you can carry into your next visit.
Every family starts somewhere. These are the earliest relationships, the ones that teach a baby whether the world feels safe and teach a parent who they're becoming.
No perfection scripts. No quick-fix tips. Just curiosity, developmental science, and the belief that support shapes outcomes.
New episodes drop weekly on Wednesdays. Wherever you are in this transition, you don't have to figure it out alone.
