This episode is about listening to YOUR OWN RHYTHMS and the rebellious act of rest.

In Western culture we don’t know how to do that very well.
We tend to feel guilty or lazy, often asking:
Did I do enough? Am I valuable enough?
But, what is enough? And by whose measurements and standards?
Who gets to judge our value?

We are worthy, simply because we are.
YOU are worthy. Simply because YOU are.

So, when value and commodity is woven into the very backbone of our society,
how does one reclaim the wild rebelliousness of rest?

Because that's exactly what rest has become... an act of rebellion.
A refusal to take part in a life that is unsustainable.
A refusal to be used up and burnt out.
A refusal to ignore your own sacred rhythm.

I think it's more than creating a moment of rest but rather a sustainable life.
Which is often found in the spaces in between.

Today's guest is author and friend, Shannon Evans. She is the spirituality and culture editor at the National Catholic Reporter and the author of the books Feminist Prayers for My Daughter: Powerful Petitions for Every Stage of Her Life and Rewilding Motherhood: Your Path to an Empowered Feminine Spirituality.

With interest in ecofeminism, contemplative practice, and social change, Shannon leads workshops and retreats across the country that spark curiosity and compassion. She has partnered with the Jesuits of Canada and the U.S. and is a frequent contributor to Franciscan Media.

Having previously lived in Indonesia for two years, Shannon loves to travel, but is happiest at home on the Iowa prairie with her family and beloved chickens.

But part of our aliveness is also embracing the pain, grief and loneliness. I think one of the hardest things about being human just may be our solitary suffering. We are collectively going through so much at this present time in history, so much collective suffering, but no one lives inside the home of your soul, but you.
