The boys begin their new book, The Vindication of the Right of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft, by offering their initial thesis along with historical context. A large part of the thesis, we discover, is why society should not avoid bringing out the potential of half the population. We then dig into how Wollstonecraft compares the treatment of women to the treatment given by the rich and powerful. Specifically, the goal and techniques of keeping the sufferer weak, wanting to be weak, and how this is fought against. Of course, we constantly compare this to today’s world.

Finally, Boog club comes to the end of their arduous journey which was Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche. We begin our discussion with a theme this final part carries on throughout. That is the topic of pity. Before we can dissect Zarathustra’s thoughts on pit along with the benefits and negatives of feeling and acting on it we first attempt to define it.

We look at the characteristics of people who apply pity. Adding to that, what Zarathustra means by pity because, as we have seen, words can mean different things to different people. We clearly see that, to him, he is strongly against feeling and performing actions based on pity.

After defining the framework, the boys are able to see if pity is actually a wrong thing or if it can be something that helps. We look at ideas involving helping others through a bias even if the bias might be needed. We also explore the opportunity of helping as it comes or helping through less obvious means.

We meet along the final part many “higher men” that Zarathustra finds and invites to his cave. Each one of these men represents an idea that Zarathustra does not agree with as well as interesting talking points. After Zarathustra meets everyone, we see how they all interact together within the cave both with and without the guidance of Zarathustra.

At last, we get to the final teachings of Zarathustra. Zarathustra shows us the importance of taking in and accepting the bad moments for they have created all the great times. Make sure to live life for achieving those moments you want to repeat forever but do not forget that all the negative emotions and parts of life made you who you are and that moment happen.

Today in Boog Club, we finish the third part and get ready to take on the last and final part of Thus Spoke Zarathustra. We first see Zarathustra’s frustration with forcing morals and “good”/“evil” on people. But this time, we see a different point which focuses around children. It makes us wonder about if we should be forcing values on children. If so, we question how we should go about doing that while also allowing your children the chance to learn on their own.

The next stop on our journey revolves around traditions. Almost expectingly, Zarathustra is against traditions and sees them as something that can hold one back as well as future generations. Listen as we explore our viewpoints on traditions and if we think they are overall negative or positive. Or maybe we come to a point in the middle and find both good and bad aspects of tradition. We also take a second to discuss the effect of tradition on our children.

We begin to see Zarathustra’s realization and coming to terms with eternity. He first gets disgusted with the idea that eternity will always produce the “small man.” This allows us to hit on the idea of history repeating itself and if we think that life will always go back to a negative state. Does life improve over time or is it destined to fall back to a negative state? We finally look at how the area of life which ebbs and flows changes over time.

After a long respite, the boys come back together to finish Part 2 of Thus Spoke Zarathustra. We start off with Zarathustra hitting on a basic principle of life: human hierarchy. Finally, join us as we re-visit values. We compare what seems to be the paradox of staying open minded and holding strong / true to your beliefs. How do you make sure you stay true to who you are while being open to take in necessary criticism and changes?

People tend to not listen to other’s advice since that means they admit to having faults. People need to be confident in their faults so they can improve. If they are not and just follow what is considered “good” blindly then they are mere believers rather than companions. We discuss what the difference between believers and companions are and how it is seen in our lives.

Later on, we see how, in Zarathustra’s eyes, everyone’s beliefs and perceptions project into their relations with higher powers. However, we see that it is important to not follow a faith for personal, selfish goals and reasons but rather doing it due to their pure belief in it. To Nietzsche, he looks pass this in finding someone who creates and fines their own values, creation beyond themselves.
