You had big plans. What happened? You ran around telling everyone you would write a book, go on vacation, buy a home, move to Montana, and hunt and fish all day. You were going to go to college and get your degree, or get a new job, or read that big-ass book. But what happened? There is a theory that if you tell someone these things, your brain rewards you as if you have already achieved the things you “talked” about.* The brain gives you a dose of dopamine every time you say you will do this stuff. The result is that you don’t end up doing it because your brain has already given you the reward just for saying it. Fucking brain. Fooled you again!
Reflections
Are you the person who says you will do stuff but never does it? Are you that person? Could you be getting high on your own supply?
Daily Challenge
Try not to talk about what you will do, but only what you’ve done. Then, reward yourself after you have actually done the work.
