“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” – Serenity Prayer
You cannot control what happens to you; you can only control how you respond to it. It is something that we often hear in recovery. The idea is that we cannot “control” everything. Some of us find a real struggle with the things that we can control. What are those things? You know, “the wisdom to know the difference.” Here is a simple acronym that might help you get a starting point for what you can control: F.A.C.T.O.R. This acronym of “FACTOR” is easy to remember. Feelings, Actions, Choices, Thoughts, Opinions (Judgments), and Reactions. Looking at every situation with this in mind might help you to avoid some pitfalls today.
Reflections
The acronym above all resides in you. Nothing in it comes from outside of your mind and body. Think about that. Where does your power come from?
Daily Challenge
Memorize the F.A.C.T.O.R. acronym and internalize how you might be able to apply it.
