Do you meditate? When involved in recovery and sobriety, we get the message that we should begin a meditation practice. This can be from the 12-Step fellowships, church, counselors, treatment center groups, yoga, social media, etc. They all say, “Fucking meditate!” Well, not exactly like that, but they all encourage you to meditate. You don’t have to “DO” anything or even “THINK” when you meditate. Also, you don’t have to have a “BLANK” mind, either. To start, you just need to show up, sit (or lie down) and breathe. Then, when thoughts arise, notice them and don’t get involved with your thoughts. Just note that they are there and part of the mind. That’s it.
Reflections
Why do I meditate? Why do all these religions, therapies, philosophies, and new-age fucking hippies meditate? What is the benefit of meditation?
Daily Challenge
Sit down today and meditate for 10 minutes. Get a comfortable spot where you will not be disturbed. Set your timer for 10 minutes, take a deep breath, and close your eyes. Let the silence do the work. When the timer is done, open your eyes. Start the practice today, and see how many consecutive days you can put together.
