Miracles? Alcoholics Anonymous talks about miracles all the time. ALL THE FUCKING TIME! It all sounds like hyperbole, an exaggeration, someone trying to over-promise what our lives are like in recovery. But take a step back and ask yourself what exactly a miracle is? The dictionary defines a miracle as:

“a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.”

And really, isn’t your sobriety inexplicable? It is in our “nature” for us to be messed up (or at least buzzed) on an ongoing basis, and we are not. What other word best describes what has happened to us? Is it not surprising? Is it not welcome? Some of us have tried for many years to get this “monkey” off our backs, and for some of us, there is no other reason other than “Divine” intervention.
