Welcome to the latest episode of Boom! It’s on the Blockchain! We’re thrilled to have Mike ter Maat (VP of Libertarian Party 2024) with us today. Mike is a prominent figure in the Libertarian Party and previously campaigned in the 2021-22 special Congressional election for Florida’s District 20.

With a solid background as a police officer in Broward County from 2010 to 2021, Mike has consistently identified as a registered libertarian. He has extensive experience in finance and economics, having served as a commercial loan officer, a financial economist at the White House Office of Management and Budget, and as a consultant for various federal and international agencies focused on economic development.

From 1992 to 2002, Mike championed free markets in the financial services sector in Washington. He later founded a successful educational business for bank executives, which he ran until 2009, offering conferences, webcasting, and strategic consulting.

Mike has traveled to thirty-five countries, taught economics at three universities, and has also substituted at many Broward public schools. He holds a BS in Aeronautical Engineering, an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and both an MS and PhD in Economics from The George Washington University.

In our latest episode of "Boom, It's on the Blockchain," we sit down with Jonathan Knight, CEO of Uprise Energy, to discuss their groundbreaking 15kW Portable Wind Turbine and its implications for renewable energy in the defense sector. The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is one of the world's largest single energy consumers, relying heavily on oil and gas for heating, lighting, and transportation. This dependency not only contributes significantly to pollution but also poses risks to national security due to reliance on foreign fossil fuels.

Jonathan delves into how Uprise Energy's portable wind turbine can help mitigate these issues. This innovative system, which can be shipped in a 20' container or two in a 40' ISO container, is towable by a standard vehicle and sets up in just one hour by a single person. Capable of powering up to 15 average US homes, villages, factories, farms, military installations, and off-grid commercial operations, it operates independently of the power grid and is optimized for low wind speed conditions.

With President Biden's Executive Order 14057 mandating the use of electricity that is 100% free of carbon pollution by 2035, the DoD is not exempt from utilizing renewable energy for heating, cooling, lighting, and communications on military bases. Jonathan explains how Uprise Energy’s technology offers a clean energy alternative to diesel-powered generators, making power for considerably less expense than the competition without requiring site improvements, heavy equipment, or a specialized workforce.

The role of nuclear power in the future energy landscape is a subject of ongoing debate and depends on various factors, including technological advancements, public perception, regulatory frameworks, and global energy policies.

In order to understand, nuclear power has a high energy density, meaning a small amount of nuclear fuel can produce a large amount of energy, contributing to energy security.

Nuclear power plants can provide continuous, reliable "base load" power, which is essential for maintaining a stable electricity supply. Ongoing research into advanced reactor designs, such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Generation IV reactors, aims to address some of the challenges associated with traditional nuclear power, including safety, cost, and waste management.

Public perception of nuclear power varies, and concerns about safety, nuclear accidents, and radioactive waste disposal can influence the future development of nuclear energy. Especially with accidents such as Chernobyl and Fukushima have raised significant safety concerns, contributing to public apprehension about nuclear power.
