BOOTCAMP Conversations with a Cause

This episode features a conversation about grief ministry at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church. Three women - Rhonda Stewart (who lost her son to gun violence), Phyllis Graham (who lost her daughter in a car accident), and Renee Betts (a clinical social worker) - share their experiences with grief and announce the launch of a new grief support ministry. They discuss the various stages of grief including denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, emphasizing that grief affects everyone differently and there's no timeline for healing. The women share how they initially struggled with anger toward God, depression, and unhealthy coping mechanisms, but found healing through faith and community support. They announce a 13-week Christ-centered grief support program called "Good Grief" using Grief Share materials, emphasizing that the church doors are open to anyone experiencing loss, regardless of their faith background.

In this powerful episode, we celebrate 25 years of the Christmas Group, the Addictions Ministry of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church. For a quarter of a century, this Monday night gathering has been a place of hope, healing, accountability, and transformation for individuals and families impacted by addiction.

Meeting every Monday at 6:30 PM at EMBC, the Christmas Group has stood as a consistent reminder that recovery is possible and that no one has to walk the journey alone. In this conversation, we reflect on the legacy, testimonies, and lasting impact of a ministry committed to freedom, faith, and restoration.
