Welcome back to Boozy Book Reports! This month, we’re dusting off our high school English books and diving into Tennessee Williams’ classic The Glass Menagerie. A tale of fragile dreams, messy family drama, and the delicate nature of reality—aka a perfect pairing for cocktails! 

Join Beth and Sam as they unpack the emotional depth of this timeless play while sipping on the Fall Vieux Carré and the Vanilla Life, two drinks inspired by the bittersweet beauty of the story.  

Drink Recipes:

Fall Vieux Carré

• ¾ ounce sweet vermouth
• ¾ ounce calvados 
• ¾ ounce rye whiskey
• 2 tsp. Benedictine 
• Add a couple of dashes of cardamon and Peychaud’s bitters
• Add all to mixing glass; then add ice
• Stir until chilled
• Strain and pour into glass
• Garnish with a cherry 

Vanilla Life

• (Mix in glass)
• Fill glass with ice
• 1 ounce Portland Syrups Vanilla Rooibos syrup 
• 2 ounces vanilla vodka
• ½ tsp lemon juice
• Stir
• Top with club soda
• Garnish with a lemon

This 1992 thriller takes us on a wild ride with the mischievous Bullock kids and their creepy nightmare-inducing babysitter. As we sip on classic Manhattans and a creepy concoction called The Taxidermy, we’ll dive into this chilling tale that’s equal parts nostalgic and terrifying. Buckle up—this one’s a scream!

Drink Recipes:

Manhattan

• 2 ounces Rye Whiskey
• 1 ounce Sweet Vermouth
• 2 dashes Angostura bitters
• 1 dash Orange bitters
• Put in mixing glass with ice
• Stir until cold
• Strain into chilled glass 
• Garnish with a Maraschino cherry

The Taxidermy

• 1 ounce Vanilla Vodka
• Mountain Dew
• Grenadine 
• Fill glass with ice
• Add vodka 
• Top off all but ¼ off glass with Mountain Dew
• Add a splash of grenadine to taste

Drink Recipe:

Brandy Alexander – A classic cocktail that's essentially booze-infused chocolate milk. 

• 1.5 ounces cognac
• 1 ounce dark creme de cacao
• 1 ounce cream
• Add all to shaker with ice and shake until cold
• Strain into a chilled glass
