hello cellists welcome to the 30 day challenge i'm so sick of this piece already um so i've i'm oh have i failed at the first week no because i'm still going to do the 30-day challenge but after a week i think it takes a week to understand an orchestral piece that runs about an hour to understand how you love it or how you hate it now there are bits of it that i absolutely love i adore the bruckner when the cello gets some melody why wouldn't we like that that's absolutely beautiful e major my favorite key anyway um so what we need to learn is definitely when when those are when they come in get excited for them so i'm going what i'm going to do is the important bits from now on i'm going to practice those only each day and i'm going to include the bit before each important bit now the important bits are going to be where i need
to be really um tuned into the vibe of the piece really loving it what i can't do is sit down for an hour and especially the finale the finale is oh god it goes on and bloody on and i was doing it yesterday and i was thinking surely because i'm following the score on youtube and i think surely it's got to end now and i kept pressing it to check my progress i thought oh god it's got bloody ages to go yet really really did not enjoy the finale um i think also after an hour i was getting tired i did it quite late in the day not a good idea it was about seven o'clock at night but of course you know if you're in an orchestra that's probably when you're going to perform it however if you've got an audience there it's a bit different isn't it and if you're listening to this
um it's not very inspiring on youtube either because um let me think did i use the headphones i didn't use the headphones because i used my ipad because i can't lift because my arthritis i can't lift my head up to watch the screen um although i can see that better so i use my ipad but i need to get a different set of headphones which i have got i think i'll do that tonight this is the thing be prepared be prepared because i was sit i sat down yesterday and i thought oh i can't see this properly because it's the mobile it was an ipad and it was the mobile youtube app for ipad and everything was really blurry so it was pixelating so that didn't work so today when i go through it what i'm gonna have to do is put the headphones in that actually work
and go online not to the app to the uh to the desktop version okay really important go to the desktop version the other thing i'm going to do and i'll i'll write everything down tonight so all this afternoon i'll try and do it this afternoon um i'll write the hard bits down which bars they are etc in the hope that um you know i can help you a bit because we don't need to sit there doing five pages of bloody tremolos do you see we really don't need to do that that's doing those for 30 days you will lose the will to live and you will never join an orchestra and that's the last thing any of us will want because we need the cellists in the orchestra absolutely imperative okay now i am very much looking forward to the june get together with the bloomsbury orchestra to do this and it's going to feel completely different...
