Like most people on Earth, Boricuas enjoy their adult libations.  Among others, there’s the ubiquitous Medalla Light beer, but the island also boasts a number of high-end craft breweries to suit any taste!  The central region’s climate is also conducive to growing grapes, leading to wine and sangria production as well.

Perhaps enjoy this episode after 5:00pm.  Drink responsibly!

Ángel Nieves Díaz, nicknamed the Grim Reaper, was the first Puerto Rican to endure a botched state execution. As humans, do we feel bad, or did he get what he deserved?

Every 2nd Sunday in June, the National Puerto Rican Day Parade takes over a 35-block swath of Fifth Avenue in New York City. One of the biggest parties in town, it’s a show of pride, accomplishment, community service, business partnerships, music, and pure joy.  A-listers attend alongside up-and-coming professionals. Flags are worn and waved. Culture and togetherness are celebrated. Everyone should experience it at least once. You can also catch it on livestream. FLAGS UP!

Cada segundo domingo de junio, el Desfile Nacional del Día de Puerto Rico ocupa una franja de 35 cuadras de la Quinta Avenida en la ciudad de Nueva York. Una de las fiestas más grandes de la ciudad, es una muestra de orgullo, logro, servicio comunitario, asociaciones comerciales, música y pura alegría. A-listers asisten junto a profesionales emergentes. Las banderas se usan y ondean. Se celebra la cultura y la unión. Todo el mundo debería experimentarlo por lo menos una vez. In 1983, the burned, beaten body of beloved Puerto Rican entertainer Luis Vigoreaux was found in the trunk of his own Mercedes-Benz in a secluded area of San Juan.  His death remains a mystery only to the one person accused of masterminding the senseless murder: Luis’ ex-wife Lydia Echevarría.

En 1983, el cuerpo quemado y golpeado del amado artista puertorriqueño Luis Vigoreaux fue encontrado en el baúl de su propio Mercedes-Benz en un área apartada de San Juan. Su muerte sigue siendo un misterio solo para la única persona acusada de planear el asesinato insensato: la ex esposa de Luis, Lydia Echevarría.

Mystifying. Mysterious. Misunderstood. Is it witchcraft, fortune-telling, or just another religion? They have saints, offerings, and rituals. But there’s no temple, no bible, no Sabbath to observe. And what about possession, or animal sacrifice? *trigger warning*

Growing up Catholic, we were taught to steer clear of Santería. Finally we did a little research.

Santería’s history is complex, created from blending two religions - one African, one European. It is practiced differently from country to country, community to community, and house to house. To this day it continues to morph and has even been attracting new followers.

In a short time, we have done our best to learn from reputable sources to shed some light and open some minds.

Desconcertante. Misterioso. Incomprendido. ¿Es brujería, adivinación o simplemente otra religión? Tienen santos, ofrendas y rituales. Pero no hay templo, ni biblia, ni sábado que observar. ¿Y la posesión, o el sacrificio de animales? *advertencia*

Al crecer como católicos, nos enseñaron a alejarnos de la santería. Finalmente investigamos un poco.

La historia de la santería es compleja, creada a partir de la combinación de dos religiones: una africana y otra europea. Se practica de manera diferente de un país a otro, de una comunidad a otra y de una casa a otra. Hasta el día de hoy continúa transformándose e incluso ha estado atrayendo nuevos seguidores.

En poco tiempo, hemos hecho todo lo posible para aprender de fuentes acreditadas para arrojar algo de luz y abrir algunas mentes.
