Bos Bones
Season 2
Episode 6: Brian Thomas
Season 2 Finale! After long last this season comes to a close with one of Boston's funkiest and most in demand commercial players. I remember the first time I heard him play with the A-Beez at Wally's I was blown away! He's a co-leader of the BT/ALC Big Band and leads his small group the BT Allstars.
He's played with touring acts G Love, Lettuce, Soulive, John Brown's Body, The Elovaters, Maceo Parker, Kevin Kinsella, Ryan Montbleau and around Boston with King’s Highway, Dela & Steady Rock Easy, The A-Beez, B3 Kings, The Attractors, Jesse Dee, and Pressure Cooker.
Thanks for all of your support, I appreciate every listener! This project has been really rewarding but a lot of work. I have so many more trombonists I'd love to interview but I'm not ready to commit to a season 3 right now. If you appreciate the podcast, let me know and maybe I'll get around to season 3 one day!

Liza Malamut takes Michael through the world of historical performance. They talk about her selection of sackbuts -- predecessor to the trombone -- championing lesser known Jewish composers of the renaissance and why she prefers to call it "historical performance" rather than "early music".

That's all while heading the brass department at Boston Conservatory.

Episode 4: Ray Greene
Having toured and recorded with Aretha Franklin, Rick James, Natalie Cole, New Kids on the Block, Carlos Santana, Tower of Power, and more, I was shocked I'd only recently learned about Ray and was super excited to meet him! We talk about moving to Boston for Berklee, his transition from club gigs, to "GB" bands, to stadium events, juggling touring life with family, the Boston music scene in the 80's and 90's (guess what? venues are still disappearing), and much more.
