Just got back into running, and this is my third run since restarting! I used to run a lot about 15 years ago, but I haven’t kept up with it consistently since then. Over the years, I’ve had a few spurts of running for a couple of months, sometimes just a few weeks. But now, I’ve got that competitive edge back and am excited to dive into competitive running again. I’m entering the Masters running age range (35+ or 40+), so it’s the perfect time to get back into it!
I filmed my entire run, but I doubt many people want to watch me jog slowly for the first 20 minutes. So, here’s the last half-mile where I pushed myself to see how fast I could go. I clocked in around 3:06 for the half-mile, which is a 6:12 pace. It was tough, and it really highlights how far I am from my previous running abilities when I was younger and in better shape.
My goal is to get as close as I can to the times I ran when I was 21 and in college. Will I hit those times? Probably not—they were much faster and likely unattainable at this point. However, for longer distances like the half marathon or marathon, I might be able to beat some of my old times. Here’s to healthy running, healthy training, and a healthy mindset!
If there are any other runners out there who can share how their training is going, or if anyone’s in a similar situation to me, I’d love to hear about it!
