While combining their 45-years of beer and brewing knowledge, both Chip and Shawn opened Bay State Brewing Company in 2012. By 2019, they opened their Bay State Taproom in Worcester while celebrating the city's 150th anniversary.

This week, I'm talking with Christina Larson and Rob Hook, Owners of Basic Batch Donuts, a specialty donut shop located in Milford, MA. After graduating from Johnson & Wales University in Denver, CO, with a baking and pastry degree and working in the restaurant industry for over fifteen years, Christina knew she wanted to open her own bakery.
After being laid off due to Covid, opening up a donut shop came to fruition. What started as a setback quickly turned into an opportunity as Christina and her fiance, Rob, worked tirelessly together to open up Basic Batch Donuts, despite the pandemic. Now, one year later, Rob and Christina share what it was like starting their company, plans for the future, and why their team feels more like family than employees.
When the two of them aren't making donuts in the early morning hours, you can often find them spending time with their dog Myla.

This week, I'm talking with Spencer Mahoney, VP of Operations at Atomic Coffee Roasters, a coffee roastery located in Salem, MA. Their mission? To spread positive energy. For over two decades, the Mahoney family has used coffee as a catalyst for inspiring community, relationships, and adventures.
In this episode, Spencer shares how his uncles started Atomic Cafe in the mid-'90s and what it was like working at Atomic Cafe growing up. He also shares how they recently split the cafe's roasting division after his father got involved in the business. I am talking with Marcella Natale, Owner of Sweets by Cella, located in Boston, MA. Marcella is a current Business Major at UMass Boston and graduates in the Spring of 2022. Although Marcella is a "self-taught" baker, she has mastered the art and skill of baking and decorating decadent desserts.
Like many businesses, Sweets by Cella was born out of the Global Pandemic. What started as a therapeutic, fun hobby quickly became a viable business after receiving so many orders for her sweets. Her most significant order to date? Fifteen cake orders for Mother's Day.
