*Beck used the term "respectability politics" without defining it. Respectability politics is a "set of beliefs holding that conformity to prescribed mainstream standards of appearance and behavior will protect a person who is part of a marginalized group, especially a Black person, from prejudices and systemic injustices." As related to this episode, it would seem that a Black person who was always "well-dressed" and looked "presentable" would be less likely to be judged, dismissed, or mistreated because of what they wear and how they look.
