You can send this one to your educators. I got to sit down with Dr. Amy Zsohar! Amy was named the Minnesota Board of Trustees Educator of the Year for 2023, she is a professor at Inver Hills Community College, and she is also the staff advisor for their LGBT+ Club!
What’s fun about this conversation is that Amy seems to have been named as Educator of the Year at least in part because of her “unusual” teaching methods. I asked her all about them and now I understand how what she does to educate her students can work to change our lives for the better. I loved it and I’m pretty sure your friends in education will love it too.
We talk with author Zaylore Stout about the censoring of queer media and the oppression of LGBTQ+ culture. And as luck would have it - our very first episode was a celebration of Zaylore's book Our Gay History in 50 States; a book of queer history that has been targeted by anti-LGBTQ+ activists.
Zaylore is also the founder of Zaylore Stout & Associates so he is able to give us a unique perspective on book bans in America.
Today we’re talking about housing - specifically - how to buy some. Buying a home is one of the best things that you can do for your financial wellbeing but it isn’t as easy to buy a home now as it used to be. So we’re going to talk with loan officer Torben Berndt - NMLS 2154506 - about everything we need to know and everything we need to do - in order to buy a home.

We’re going to enjoy a great conversation with a close personal friend - Adrian Benjamin! Adrian worked with me on my first run for office and then expatriated to France shortly thereafter. He lived there through the Paris COVID lockdowns and subsequent travel restrictions and remained there until very recently. We are catching up with him today during a visit home before his next big adventure.

This episode of Bottomless Coffee Podcast was recorded live at Inver Hills Community College with their LGBT+ Club. We changed things up and asked the students to submit questions that they'd like to be asked and that led to an incredible conversation about college life, LGBT+ advocacy on campus, coming out and being outed, and things students and teachers can do to be more inclusive, and queer joy.

Let's talk about respect! I asked people on social media to send me the names of the people that they respect - and not one person they sent was a member of the queer community!
So I had some questions. Namely: who do you respect, why do you respect them, what does your behavior look like when its directed towards people that you respect, and should there be more members of the queer community on the list of people that you respect?
I asked those questions to Dr. Ron Hunter and I think that his responses were enlightening. We previously spoke with Ron about mentorship and that episode is one of our highest rated episodes to date.
Ron is a dear friend who takes respect VERY seriously and in this conversation he challenges me about some of my thoughts on why the queer community doesn't get the respect that I think we deserve.
