  • How to Succeed in Interviews

Interviews can be daunting at the best of times, let alone when the future of graduate employment is so uncertain. We want our members to feel confident when they go for an interview, even if those interviews are being conducted over Zoom or other web-based platforms for the time being.

In this episode, we are joined by Alex Hasiotis, an Associate Director at UBS. Drawing on his experience as both an interviewee and an interviewer, Alex takes us through his advice for tackling different kinds of interviews including pre-recorded, case and behavioural interviews. Throughout the discussion, Alex talks about the importance of researching the relevant industry and knowing what the key trends are, how you can show engagement over Zoom and what he believes are the top 3 qualities in an interviewee. If you would like some advice from an industry professional on how to differentiate yourself in the interview process, this one is for you!

Whilst this episode has great general advice for all listeners, we would particularly encourage those interested in investment banking to take a listen.

  • Bonus Episode: The Comparison Trap

This week we have a bite-sized bonus episode for you! Over the past couple of weeks, we have been working hard to produce content that our listeners will find valuable and relevant during this time. These new episodes will be dropping soon, but in the meantime, we have our People and Culture Officer Monique to have a quick chat to you all about ‘The Comparison Trap’. At a time when we are being encouraged to use our time productively, we would like to remind each of our members to run their own race. Of course, we think it’s great for those who are taking the time to pick up a new skill or hobby, but we also think it is important not to spend too much time comparing yourself to your peers, now or in general. We hope that you enjoy this episode, and as always if you have any questions or episode ideas, feel free to submit them to our BoWTalks Tumblr page:

  • Finding Passion and Purpose in Your Career

How does one find genuine passion and purpose in their career? In this episode, Monique and Kate sit down with Career Management Consultant Natalie Tran to tackle this important question. Natalie began her career in accounting, securing a role at Deloitte whilst studying her CA. After moving into asset management and spending a decade with Goldman Sachs, Natalie realised that she was not entirely fulfilled in career and decided that it was time to take on a coaching role and help others to find job satisfaction.  We cover everything from how disengagement in work can lead to stress, to the importance of grit and following your own path. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed recording!

  • Should I Change My Course?

Have you ever stopped and thought that maybe the course you are putting so much time and effort into just isn’t for you?

On this week’s episode of BoWTalks, Kate sits down with Inga and Zoe to discuss their experiences switching to a different degree. Inga was one week into her Bachelor of Arts when she realised that she wanted to switch to Commerce. Zoe always knew that she wanted to be a teacher but thought that she had to pursue another career first, leading her to study Commerce for a year.

We cover everything from the frustration associated with realising you are in the wrong course, to the actual process involved in switching courses and why you should never view any study as wasted time. If you have been ruminating about your area of study and whether something else is better aligned with your skills and interests, this one is for you!

  • The Ins and Outs of LinkedIn

On average, recruiters spend 36 seconds viewing a LinkedIn profile. Are you doing everything you can to ensure that your profile stands out from the crowd?

In this episode, we are lucky enough to be joined by former BoW Vice President, Julia Woolrich, and Tina Pariani- Lienert, a Learning and HR Performance Leader and Career Coach. Tina takes us through all things LinkedIn, including how students can use the platform to leverage their professional network, what makes a profile stand out, and some interesting features that users might not currently be taking advantage of. We also discuss the importance of having a genuine and consistent personal brand, and how you can communicate your brand through LinkedIn.

If you're looking for something to keep you occupied at this strange time, we highly recommend giving this one a listen and taking on Tina's advice. Use some of that downtime to revamp your LinkedIn profile! Read some of the fantastic articles circulating on the platform! Read 'Lean In' by Sheryl Sandberg, which is recommended by Tina in this episode. And as always, if you have any follow up questions don't hesitate to post them on our Tumblr to get a response from our committee:

  • Internships 101

WE'RE BACK!! After a brief summer hiatus we are very happy to announce our first full length podcast episode, and its all about internships.

What's an assessment centre? How do I prepare for a high stakes interview? Are interns all competing with each other for grad roles? These might be some of the questions you've been asking yourself in the midst of applying for internships. Luckily for you we've roped in two of our committee members,  Caitlin Fleming and Florence Liu, to take us through the application process and share some of the tips that landed them vacationer roles at EY and Deloitte. We might be biased, but we think Caitlin and Florence are pretty impressive, so what are you waiting for? Get their advice in your ears already!
