As a filmmaker, Herzog has always been more interested in images than story and I'd be hard pressed to find an image more typifying ambition, adventure, and madness than a man trying to move a 300 ton ship over a mountain in the middle of a jungle. Fitzcarraldo and the other films covered this month may not have stood out to me in any ways other than some striking images and sequences, but I'm sure as hell glad that there's a filmmaker willing to explore chaos like Herzog.
