Meet Ruth.

Ruth Carlock is the Support Service Case Manager and Public Policy at the Brain Injury Association of Maryland. Her career experience includes time as an ACT case manager, support planner, residential counselor, social work case manager, and PRP specialist. She has worked with a diverse set of populations, from geriatric clients, LGBTQIA+, and clients suffering with mental health diagnoses. Her dual bachelor's is in Psychology and Sociology & Anthropology, and she is currently focusing on her master's in social work. She provides administrative case management for BI Waiver participants which involves at least quarterly visits with participants to ensure health and safety needs are met, developing service plans based on participants goals and needs in collaboration with individual, family, and providers, and assists with problem solving and resource access as needed. In her policy role, Ruth participates in stakeholder groups at both state and national levels, tracks legislation, collaborates on bill testimony, provides feedback on proposed regulation changes and policy priorities. In support of BIAMD's information and assistance role, Ruth is one of several staff who answers phone calls and emails from individuals, caregivers and professionals and connects them with brain injury resources and services to address their individual needs. She also provides support for BIAMD's events.

Gabriel Rubinstein, Esq. is an attorney with Disability Rights Maryland (DRM) (formerly known as "Maryland Disability Law Center"), the state's designated Protection & Advocacy agency, which is mandated to advance the civil rights of people with disabilities. Gabriel's work focuses generally on access to health care, assistive technology, transportation, as well as issues unique to individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury. Gabriel currently serves as DRM's representative on the Maryland State Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Board. Prior to joining DRM in 2021, Gabriel worked as a staff attorney with Maryland Legal Aid and represented clients with public benefits, housing, consumer, and other legal issues. Gabriel graduated from St. Mary's College of Maryland in 2011 and received his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2016, where he completed the Health Law & Policy Program. Gabriel served as the law clerk for the Honorable Althea M. Handy in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City from 2016 to 2017.

Christina Osheim's life is dedicated to art and community. While a student at St. Olaf College she had a freak accident working grounds crew in 2003. This accident resulted in severe traumatic brain injury, changing her life, but not her focus on art. She has learned to adapt to the lifelong changes TBI has brought. She did a 5th year at the Rhode Island School of Design, was an Associate Artist at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia. Osheim received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2012 and spent the year after as a resident artist at Red Dirt Studio and as a ceramics teacher for VCU. In 2016 she started her own ceramic studio in 2016. In 2021 she moved it to Brentwood, Maryland and relaunched. She also became an active member of BIAMD's weekly check in chats. Her work is currently sold at the Barnes Foundation Gift Shop in Philadelphia and is working on an order for The Phillips Collection in DC and a custom order for Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia. There will be an open studio December 10th from 12-5pm at her studio in Artisan 4100 in Brentwood Md.

Suzanne Coyle is a Speach Language Pathologist and the Executive Director of the Stroke Comeback Center. The Stroke Comeback Center is a community of survivors of stroke and other brain trauma committed to living successful and productive lives. A non-profit organization that offers support along the slow road to better. The members, professionals, volunteers, coaches, and families of the Stroke Comeback Center know that recovery continues forever. They are the only center of this kind in the Washington, DC area, that we are aware of.
