She reaches out beyond the perimeter
Reaches beyond the limits
Of her freedom
Never bound,
Never broken,
And what she tells me
With the darkest smile,
I never dreamed I would see.
And beyond the edges,
Somewhere beyond the line
I find myself
Wanting more
And I find myself
Nauseous
At my own pathetic needs.
So I turn and walk away
Head hung in heavy contemplation,
Knowing the depth of my weakness
Is beyond what I care to discover
And I bury all the shards
Of my once precious dreams
At the foot of a great oak tree
Where perhaps caught by its roots
They may one day flourish again.
