Topic: When pastors teach a twisted view of Romans 13 and declare that Christians are to obey all government leaders regardless of how cruel and corrupt they are, such pastors are actually teaching the divine right of kings. The divine right of kings actually declares that the magistrate is God’s representative on earth or the vicar of Christ on earth. Ironically, some of the pastors that teach this twisted view of Romans 13, and thus the divine right of kings, have been some of the harshest critics of the Pope [and rightfully so] who claim to be the vicar of Christ on earth. Some of these pastors have also correctly refuted the idea of modern-day prophets or apostles. Yet, the divine right of kings, as represented by a twisted interpretation of Romans 13, creates a magistrate that is doing the will of God on earth to the point the magistrate is a modern-day prophet or apostle who is proclaiming the will of God through government beyond what is provided as the Biblical template. Topic: Some of the hyper-Calvinist pastors who are teaching this perverted view of Romans 13 are not only refuted by scripture, but by theologically reformed statesmen such as John Wycliff and John Knox. Topic: A nationally known pastor has written that the Crusaders were wrong and Christians should not agree with their cause. Why is this a false statement? Topic: This same pastor has written that Christians should not approve of the wars that were fought by Christians during the Reformation and that Christians should not approve of the actions of Oliver Cromwell and his men during the 1660s who were opposing the English monarchy.
