What does it look like to love bravely? How can community help us with a brave love? How does compassion go along with all of this? My guest today, Juli, answers these questions and so many more in her latest book, Brave Love.

After nearly two decades of working in a hospice tucked away in the remote Kenyan village of Kipkaren River, Juli Boit has gathered a collection of stories that reveal the essence of her courageous and compassionate journey. Her new book, “Brave Love: A Nurse’s Story of Courage and Compassion in a Kenyan Hospice” is a powerful testament to the transformative power of love and will be released on November 6, 2023. Brave Love invites readers to explore the heart and soul of hospice care in Kenya, offering a beacon of hope in even the most challenging circumstances.

In her book, Juli dives deep into the essence of love in challenging circumstances, something we can all relate to. And Juli will tell you that loving your neighbor can happen anywhere - both in a Kenyan hospice and right down the street.

Here are some of my biggest take-aways from our conversation! 

• Keep track of the faithfulness of God by journaling or writing it down so you can look back later and be reminded of his faithfulness 
• Being brave is more than not being afraid, its about trusting that if God is leading us somewhere we can know it’s for our best and his glory 
• We can show up for others in knowing we aren’t alone, but God is with us and brings along community to walk with us 
• When we separate ourselves from the possibility of pain we are also separating ourselves from the possibility of joy
• Now, Here, This - even though we’d rather be in a different situation how can we look at where we are now and know that God is here with us in this moment 
• Ask Yourself.... What does it look like to love in this situation? 
• Allow God to interrupt your plans, you’ll be so glad you did! 
• We never arrive in a place in our Christian walk where we won’t need to actively trust God any longer, we need to continually choose to trust the Lord no matter what
