Many people struggle with the question, “Who am I?” The Bible says that you are God’s workmanship and His masterpiece. This is how Jesus sees you! You are not perfect, because He’s still working on you. Jesus asked Jacob, “Who are you?” He asked him so that Jacob could have an understanding of who he was. Pastor James says, “When God shows up and asks you, it’s not because He doesn’t know the answer. He wants you to understand where you are and that you are a work in progress.”

Today Pastor James tells us about Jacob and Laben. Laben tried tricking Jacob out of sheep. When he found out that he had been cheated, he did not leave but made it so that he would have his own flock. Later, Jacob left with his family and Laben pursued them. He was angry and tried to get them to admit they had stolen from him. God showed up in a dream and told Laben to treat his family with respect. God was telling Jacob, “I’ve got your back!” When you struggle He does the same for you!

Today Pastor James teaches how God is in control. To some that may be difficult to hear. You need to trust even when it doesn’t make sense. He will come through like no other. When Jacob was older he fell in love with Rebecca. After 14 years of hard labor, being tricked into marrying Rebecca’s older sister Leah, Leban finally allowed Jacob to marry his true love. He was also tricked out of money and livestock by Leban. Through this, God continued to teach Jacob, “Don’t worry, I am with you!”

Pastor James starts todays’ message off by sharing some encouraging scripture. Jesus said, “Don’t worry, I will be with you!” A man in the Bible named Jacob needed to hear those words. The first of many troubles Jacob went through, had to do with his twin brother Esau. They fought from the very beginning of their lives. When they were older, Jacob stole Esau’s blessing, so Esau wanted him dead. Today we learn how Jacob used those powerful words to make it through the tough times.

In this passage of scripture, you will see so much competition between Rachel and Leah who were fighting for Jacob’s love. In today’s message, Pastor James will encourage you to stop trying to please others in the hopes that they will love you. It will only frustrate you if you are constantly trying to please people. Instead of trying harder to please others, make your aim to please God in all that you do and out of the overflow of your praise to God will come kindness to others.

It is so easy to be jealous of other people, especially family members. Today, Pastor James will remind you that it is never good to be envious or jealous of other people. Instead, you should be happy for those who are blessed and come alongside those who are hurting and need encouragement. Pastor James will show you an example from Rachel’s life of how envy is very destructive. Instead of doing things her own way, Rachel should have prayed and asked God for help.
