English Podcast - Amalek lives today
“So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”
This is the first place we find a mention of Joshua in the Bible. His name in Hebrew means: “God is salvation”. It is the same name as Jesus with a the same meaning and this of course is not be accident. In all that Joshua does, God will be showing us what Jesus would do.
Joshua would lead the people into the promise land as did Jesusl. See that great victories were won by Joshua at the beginning. After Joshua left the scene, however the people compromised with the inhabitants. We see the church did the same. We had great victories at the first but then we made peace with the world. So one can read the history of Israel and learn what happened to the church and what is ahead.
Moses on the mountain sending down Joshua to fight the Amalekites is a picture of God on the mountain, (heaven), sending Jesus into the world. Joshua was told to choose men. Jesus did the same when Jesus chose the disciples. It was not everyone who was chosen, it was the ones who would become warriors. It was not simply the twelve Jesus chose, there were many besides the first disciples that followed Jesus into battle.
These disciples would go out and fight with the foes, in Exodus 17 it is the Amalekites. In the day of Jesus the disciples fright against Satan and Israel itself for Israel had become apostate.
One sees the outline of the coming of Jesus and the history of the church what is being told to us here and later on.
