  • Catholic Answers Live - Renewing Catholic Schools
How can our Catholic schools be renewed?
    Questions Covered:
14:30 - I think the state of affairs of the Catholics schools is looking pretty bad and they don’t seem viable. The schools that are remaining open are getting overcrowded.
20:09 - I was a Catholic school teacher in a small school and I’d like to thank you for what you’re doing. I think Christ needs to be put back in Catholic schools.
30:06 - Is there some way that public funding can possibly be utilized to support Catholic schools?
33:05 - I heard about Our Lady of Victory High School. I have a sixth grader. Would it be a good fit for him since he is dyslexic?
35:04 - What do you think about making the school day start with Holy Mass for all students and staff?
39:25 - Do you think that all Catholic teachers took an oath of fidelity to the Catholic Church/faith that a lot of the nonsense would be removed from the schools?
41:20 - We homeschool because of the lack of good Catholic schools. In our co-op, which is Protestant, it has been challenging as my kids have gotten older. It seems like Catholic homeschool has not progressed the way Christian homeschooling has.
45:35 - Some families just simply cannot afford tuition. What is your solution for that?
49:35 - How much is Catholic social teaching involved in the renewal of Catholic schools?

  • Catholic Answers Live - Problems with Feminism
Why has feminism been so destructive?
    Questions Covered:

15:58 - If someone says that gender is a fluid concept, how can a person even say that they’re a feminist? How would you address that?
22:47 - Feminism has changed over the last 50 years. People have different understandings of what feminism is. I think a woman having the right to have equal opportunity for employment is really important. I don’t think feminism is always wrong.
31:37 - My wife is very much a feminist. She believes in gender fluidity. How can I speak with her about these issues in such a close relationship?
36:27 - How can I speak to people about the joy and importance of motherhood?
45:20 - What do you mean that some people might be born in the wrong body?
50:22 - Now that there is a push to have new labels for gender, it is weird to hear people talking about “women’s” bodies, when people seem to think that they can be whatever they want.

  • S3 E3 Julia Golding
Continuing with our most international season to date, we welcome Julia Golding from Oxford, England. Julia is a writer and the director of Project Northmoor, a campaign to save J.R.R. Tolkien’s home (where he wrote The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy) and to establish the first literary center in the world dedicated to Tolkien.
Though it sounds as if it could have been written today, Julia’s quote fittingly comes from Tolkien himself, namely from The Fellowship of the Ring:
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
We also discussed these words from Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis:
“Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.”
