The Team of Patience

James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall

into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your

faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its

perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete,

lacking nothing.

● This verse talks of faith and patience being mixed

together. The end result of developing these two

being: perfect, complete, & no lack

● Mark 4:16 These likewise are the ones sown on

stony ground who, when they hear the word,

immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they

have no root in themselves, and so endure only

for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or

persecution arises for the word’s sake,

immediately they stumble.

● Your faith will only take you as far as your

patience.

● If you quit believing you get the same result as if

you never believed in the first place.

● What you get by being impatient you cannot keep,

what you get by being patient you cannot lose.

○ Ishmael & Isaac

○ You may get what you want, but you may not

want what you get.

The Force of Patience

Heb 6:11 And we desire that each one of you show the

same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the

end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate

those who through faith and patience inherit the

promises.

● This portion of scripture talks of a force of

patience...not a passive endurance.

● Patience is diligent, not sluggish.

● Patience doesn’t just weather the storm...it swims

to shore.

● Patience seeks the Word, holds fast to the Word,

and it continues to do the Word.

The Availability of Patience

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,

longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23

gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

● The fruit are the very attributes of God deposited

in the heart of the believer when that same Spirit

that raised Christ from the dead dwells on the

inside of you.

● Patience is in you...it may need to be “exercised”

● Fruit needs to be developed...we are to bear fruit.

Patience is powerful, it is productive, and it is in you.
