Stewardship - Protecting and expanding the assets of
the owner.
Matt 25:14-29
● This is a parable that Jesus is using to help explain
what stewardship looks like. The Lord in this
parable is not God, the Lord in this story is a
fictitious character that Jesus is using to illustrate a
spiritual truth.
● The stewards in this parable all had different
abilities.
● The stewards knew their Lord. They knew him to
be a hard man, reaping where he had not sown,
and gathered where he hadn’t scattered seed.
● Two stewards took the information they knew
about their master, applied it to their assignment,
and were rewarded for it.
● One steward took the info about their master, and
didn’t apply it to their assignment, and was
rewarded for it.
Deut 8:18 “And you shall remember the LORD your God,
for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He
may establish His covenant which He swore to your
fathers, as it is this day.
Psalm 24:1 The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
1. We are stewards on this rock called earth. We are
to protect and expand the Lord’s assets.
2. We all have different abilities
3. We know that our God is GENEROUS!!
4. He has entrusted us with every spiritual blessing,
set us free from sin, given us a new spirit, placed
His Spirit within us, redeemed us, justified us,
made us more than conquerors!!
a. He has given us the power to create wealth
b. 1 Tim 6:17 Command those who are rich in
this present age not to be haughty, nor to
trust in uncertain riches but in the living God,
who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 18 Let
them do good, that they be rich in good
works, ready to give, willing to share, 19
storing up for themselves a good foundation
for the time to come, that they may lay hold
on eternal life.
5. God is generous, He is wanting us to live
generously. This will require us to build margin
into our lives so we can live generously, being
good stewards of what the Lord has entrusted to
us.
a. Luke 10:25-37 The good samaritan
b. You can’t “love your neighbor” this way
unless you have built some margin into your
life.
