The sad part about these situations is that statistics show that 80-90% of women who disclosed their attack actually knew the attacker. For many of us, we didn’t grow up with anyone we could really trust. Therefore, it’s not always a surprise we can’t trust again. We become “numb.” We “put it behind us.” We keep it in and continue to live life as if nothing happened. We never talk about it. It’s time to start talking. It’s time to really allow ourselves to HEAL. It’s not about trying to fit in anymore. It’s about standing out and taking a stand against those who can’t get to us without force or us being under the influence. We aren’t weak though. In all reality, they are weak!

Nevertheless, as we create awareness and a safe space for these women, we will also work to change the system so every woman has a voice and isn’t expected to be put out of their home with a child or multiple children. Let’s join forces to make sure anyone who is such a coward to put his hands on a woman is not rewarded, but instead placed behind bars, no matter what his status or how much money he has.
