On the morning of 4th December 2024, UnitedHealth Insurance CEO Brian Thompson was walking over the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan for an investors' conference when he was brutally shot and killed by a masked gunman, later identified and arrested as 26 year old Luigi Mangione.

This case was quickly picked up by various outlets due to the brazen nature of the killing as well as the high profile victim; only for it to take a rather unhinged turn online.
