Breaking through Barriers When You Want to Be Heard

When we speak and feel we’re not heard, it hurts. These are among our basic need of human beings – to be heard, understood, respected, validated. If you have a pattern of speaking and not being heard, you likely have a filter that says, “no matter how hard I try to speak my truth, I’m not going to be heard.” We each have our own filters through which we experience life and through which we relate to each other. Filters are based on what we’ve learned from past experiences. We use our filters to make sense of the future and to be prepared for what may come. The person you are speaking to has their own filters that affect the way they are hearing or not hearing you. So how can you penetrate through the filters to have meaningful and productive communications? That’s the topic of today’s Prayer & Healing Circle.

If you have or have had a relationship where you felt unheard or unseen, take a minute to reflect on it. Make some notes.
