At about 5:40 AM, Attala County Deputies were notified of a cow in the road on Attala Rd. 2111 near the Yockanookany Wildlife Management Area between Ethel and McCool.

Upon arrival, the cow was nowhere to be found but soon reports came in that there were now four disrupting traffic. Their numbers later increased to as many as seventeen before the owner managed to start wrangling them at about 7:15 AM.

Mississippi Blood Services is issuing an urgent appeal for blood donors amid a critical shortage across the state, with a community blood drive scheduled in Kosciusko later this week.

The Rescue Attala County Blood Drive will take place Friday, Aug. 28, in the Walmart parking lot in Kosciusko from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.

Mississippi Blood Services says donors, especially those with A, B, and O blood types, are needed immediately to help ensure local hospitals have adequate supplies of lifesaving blood products.

Presenting donors will receive a thank-you gift at the time of donation. In addition, anyone who donates blood or platelets through Aug. 31 will automatically be entered into the “Race to Save Lives” giveaway for a chance to win one of two $500 Visa gift cards.

Anyone unable to attend the Kosciusko drive can find additional donation opportunities throughout the region, including upcoming drives in Grenada, Union, Starkville, Meridian, and Eupora.

Campers that attended Little Whippet Cheer Camp in May will have their time to shine at the Whippets 1st home football game this Friday night (Aug. 28.)

All participants should be at Landrum Field/Whippet Stadium by 5:45 pm to prepare for the pregame performance.

Little Whippet cheerleaders will also help form the spirit line and cheer with the high school cheerleaders during the 1st quarter.

The Kosciusko-Attala Career Tech Center is grateful to have received a Do-Good Grant from Modern Woodmen of America to provide much-needed shop supplies for our Automotive Service program.

Charlie Plunkett, FICF, FFSC, with Modern Woodmen of America, presented the supplies to Automotive Service Instructor Alex Blanton and the program.

This gift is especially meaningful because Mr. Plunkett is a former student of the Automotive Service program. His return to support the program is a wonderful reminder of how the skills, experiences, and opportunities students gain through Career and Technical Education can impact their lives long after they leave the classroom.

We sincerely appreciate Modern Woodmen of America for investing in our Automotive Service program and helping provide the shop supplies our students need for valuable hands-on learning.
