As Kosciusko students head back to class, school district leadership is reminding local drivers, parents, and students to keep transportation safety top of mind.

Kosciusko School District Superintendent Dr. Danya Turner and Transportation Coordinator Evan Horn stopped by The BreckFast Show Wednesday morning to share key safety rules, navigation tips for busy school zones, and general advice as buses return to their regular morning and afternoon routes.

For Dr. Turner, protecting students while in transit requires a team effort across Attala County.

“Our number one priority is making sure that every student arrives safely, understands the environment that they’re in, and returns home safely,” Dr. Turner said. “Safe transportation involves the families, school staff, bus drivers, and community people… Our buses are carrying our community’s most precious cargo, and it’s our children. If we can continue to work together, we can make sure that every student arrives to and from school safely.”

For students riding the bus, especially young, first-time riders, safety starts before stepping onto the vehicle. Horn advised parents to have kids waiting at their assigned stops five to ten minutes early and highlighted a few core rules for students:

Horn also issued a strong reminder to local drivers about traffic laws surrounding stopped buses and busy drop-off zones, noting that the most dangerous moments happen when other vehicles fail to yield.

“When you see those yellow amber lights go on, you need to be prepared to start stopping,” Horn explained. “Once the bus hits the red light, the stop sign comes out, and the cross arm comes out, you need to be at a complete stop and don’t move until the stop sign goes in. That’s where most injuries happen.”

Horn added that traffic tends to back up near the Upper Elementary campus in the morning and urged all motorists, whether dropping off kids or commuting to work, to slow down in active school zones.

PHILADELPHIA, Miss. — Country music superstar Lainey Wilson is heading to the Ellis Theater for a pair of special acoustic fundraiser performances Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026.

Fresh off stadium tours, Grammy wins, and a string of chart-topping hits including “Heart Like a Truck,” “Watermelon Moonshine,” and “4x4xU,” Wilson will perform two intimate shows in a single evening, with set times scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Proceeds from both performances will directly support the ongoing efforts to complete Marty Stuart’s Congress of Country Music, helping build a permanent home to preserve and celebrate country music history.

Tickets officially go on sale to the public Friday, Aug. 7, at 10:00 a.m.

Organizers remind concertgoers that the Ellis Theater is the sole authorized seller for the event. To avoid ticket fraud and third-party markup, buyers should purchase tickets directly through ellistheater.org, Ticketmaster, or in person at the Ellis Theater box office.

Local residents, educators, students, and faith leaders gathered at Kosciusko High School Sunday evening for a district-wide Community Prayer Walk to pray for a safe upcoming school year.

The event kicked off at 6:00 PM outside Kosciusko High School, where attendees prayed together before dividing into teams to cover every campus across the school district.

Doors to local schools were unlocked for the evening, allowing community members to walk the halls of each campus to pray over the classrooms, hallways, and meeting spaces where students and staff will spend the coming year.

Participants also left encouragement behind for educators and staff. Armed with pads of sticky notes and pens, volunteers wrote out favorite Bible verses and words of encouragement, placing them on classroom doors, administrative offices, teacher lounges, and common areas throughout the district.

Locals schools in the Kosciusko and Attala County School Districts will begin classes Monday, Aug. 3.
