A Kosciusko native with nearly three decades of service at Mississippi State Hospital has been recognized for his dedication and work ethic.

Kevin Frazier, originally from Kosciusko and currently residing in Pearl, has been named Mississippi State Hospital’s Employee of the Month for March in Support Services.

Frazier serves as a Systems Admin Specialist I in Information Management and has worked at Mississippi State Hospital for nearly 28 years. He attended both Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration.

When asked what he enjoys most about his work, Frazier pointed to problem-solving.

Outside of his professional duties, he enjoys fishing, traveling, and watching movies. His favorite quote is, “Without music, life would be a mistake.”

Hospital leadership praised his long-standing commitment and daily attitude.

“Kevin comes to work every day with a great attitude and is always willing to help. He is always going above and beyond,” the statement read. “He consistently upholds the core values of our organization and serves as a role model to others. His dedication not only drives results but also fosters a supportive and efficient work environment. He is always very knowledgeable and very fast completing work.”

Mississippi State Hospital, a program of the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, was founded in 1855. The hospital provides care aimed at helping individuals achieve mental wellness by encouraging hope, promoting safety, and supporting recovery. It is accredited by the Joint Commission.

Frazier’s recognition highlights both his long tenure and his continued commitment to supporting the hospital’s mission.

A playwright with local ties is seeing one of his works take center stage in Mississippi’s capital.

New Stage Theatre in Jackson is currently presenting the world premiere of The Attala County Garden Club, written by Kosciusko native Topher Payne. The production runs April 7 through April 19.

The dark Southern comedy blends humor with supernatural elements and has been described as “Practical Magic meets Steel Magnolias.” The story is set in Mississippi in 1987 and follows recently divorced Rose Chipley, who returns to her hometown to collect an inheritance—her Aunt Polly’s mysterious Queen Anne mansion. After joining a group known as The Attala County Garden Club, Rose begins experiencing strange memory lapses, unusual visitors, and mysterious radio broadcasts, leading her to uncover secrets tied to her past and the club’s hidden agenda.

Payne, who was born and raised in Kosciusko, has built a national reputation as a playwright and screenwriter. He began his theatre career as a teenager working behind the scenes at New Stage Theatre before eventually writing his own productions. Over the years, his plays have been performed across the country, including Off-Broadway productions, and he has also written several films for the Hallmark Channel.

The Attala County Garden Club is particularly meaningful for local audiences, as the play draws inspiration from Mississippi culture and small-town Southern life. The work is also notable as one of Payne’s earlier plays that has been reimagined and rewritten two decades later for its premiere run.

Performances of The Attala County Garden Club continue through April 19 at New Stage Theatre, located at 1100 Carlisle Street in Jackson. Evening performances are scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on select dates, with Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m.

The annual Miss Natchez Trace Festival Pageant is happening this Friday, April 10, at 6:00 p.m. at the Skipworth Performing Arts Center.

The pageant will feature girls and young women from infants through high school, showcasing talent, poise, and creativity across multiple age divisions.

Admission is $6 for adults, and children 4 and under are free. Each contestant will be accompanied by one helper backstage, who must also pay the admission fee.

Students from the Kosciusko-Attala Career and Technical Center recently traveled to Jackson to compete in the SkillsUSA State Conference, where they proudly represented their programs and school.

Participants competed in a variety of career and technical events, showcasing their skills, knowledge, and professionalism alongside students from across the state. Each KACTC student demonstrated dedication and preparation, representing the center with excellence.

The conference provided a valuable and rewarding experience for all students involved. In addition to competition, students had the opportunity to network, learn from industry professionals, and gain real-world experience in their chosen fields.

The SkillsUSA State Conference continues to be an important event that highlights the talent and hard work of career and technical education students, and KACTC students once again rose to the occasion.
