The Power of Connections

Brian Salvi: Authenticity Is Paramount To Connection ‒ How Relationships Play A Role In A Successful Life

Listen Later

In this episode, Rich and Brian discuss:

  • Why working with family members is a double-edged sword
  • Relationships take work.
  • The importance of presence in tough times
  • The power of authenticity

Key Takeaways:

  • Getting direct mentoring from your family members is one of the many benefits of working with them, but it is also important to keep in mind that you may find yourself oftentimes on special occasions just talking about work or that you can’t separate your work and family hours.
  • Friendships and relationships are a two-way street, it requires give and take. The best relationships are those where you not only feel motivated to maintain the effort, but you also feel that in return, you feel like the other person is similarly interested and motivated to keep engaging with you.
  • Be present. The person who is suffering can choose to engage you if they want, or not. If they don't feel like engaging at any time, you just let them do it, but the important thing is that you're there for them.
  • Authenticity is paramount to connections and relationships. Even if someone disagrees with you, they'll understand and respect you if you're authentic; it's when people feel like they're getting a version of you that isn't real that you'll start to lose them.

“If I can engage people in a way that will ultimately allow them to understand and respect me in the way that I want to be understood and respected, then I find that hard to consider anything other than a success.” — Brian Salvi
