UPDATE: 2020-03-11 Steemit have restarted the signup process. I applied for an account today, I'll report when I get notified it is available.

I signed up via the Steemit interface for a new account just to test the procedure a few days after the Tron @justinsunsteemit deal but before the forking and the Sybil attack and #SteemHostileTakeOver

The system is no longer working and any attempt to create a free account via Steemit.com fails because it won't let you pick a username.
