Can you think of a moment in time that changed the rest of your life forever? Maybe it was a word of encouragement from a primary-school teacher to pursue your dreams; maybe it was the confidence built when you won a particular contest or received a special award; or maybe it was when you first learned that the person you loved wanted to share the rest of their life with you.

We all have moments at one time or another, that have a huge impact on our lives. Jesus' resurrection was one of these indisputable, life-changing moments. When he rose to life, the people who first encountered him were never to be the same again – not in the least!

This Sunday we’re taking a fresh look at the post-resurrection accounts of Jesus, to see how his resurrection not only changed the lives of his followers in first-century Palestine, but how it is meant to completely change the lives of his followers today. For the better!

This Sunday we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ – the event that changed everything. Triumph trumped tragedy. Courage replaced fear. Hope pushed out despair. Life defeated death.

Seems like more than enough reason to rejoice, right? For millions of people, for over 2000 years now, that’s been the case.

More than just a fad, Christianity is the real thing. And it’s worth looking into. For those who do, it could change everything. Just like it did for those who peered into Jesus’ empty tomb and came out completely different than when they went in.

It has been estimated by historians that perhaps as many as 30,000 people were executed by crucifixion – occasionally several in one day – in the Roman Empire around the time of the life of Jesus. However, only one of those deaths changed the world.

What was so unique about Jesus’ death? Why was it important? Why should his death be singled out for recognition? Why did he suffer and die? The central issue of Jesus’ death is not the cause, but the meaning behind it. That is what this week’s message is all about as we consider the day Christ died – the most dramatic day in history.

Somewhere today, someone is dealing with the unfairness of life. Mind you, they’d rather not. But it’s inescapable. Woven into the fabric of life.

Is that someone you? Chances are you’ve known unfairness up close and personal. Perhaps you’re staring it in the face right now. And if not now, sometime in the recent past. And no doubt will once again deal with it in the future.

It’s not a matter of will we be hit with unfairness. It's more like when. Jesus was. In extreme measure. This Sunday we’ll focus on the unfairness He endured and discover how He got through it without falling apart. And in so doing learn a key fact that can make a world of difference when unfairness comes our way.

We use products every day that have had a revolutionary impact on our society. Think about Apple’s iPhone, Google’s search engine, or Facebook’s social network. I would guess that, for many of you, it's hard to imagine life without them now. Talk about things that have changed our world!

We don’t always think about it in these terms, but Jesus came to revolutionize the world. And, clearly, he was successful! But what’s more is Jesus calls his followers to carry on the effort.

Ever had a moment when someone whom you trusted and loved ended up betraying you?

Jesus did.

Over the past 2,000 years, the name of Judas Iscariot has become synonymous with deceit, hypocrisy, and betrayal. After all, he carried out the plans that led to the brutal murder of the morally perfect, divine Son of God. Did God know beforehand that Judas would commit such treachery? If so, why would Jesus have personally chosen and invited Judas to be one of His closest friends and to be mentored by Him? Is it possible that Judas was really just a victim of his circumstances? What ultimately led Judas to his fateful decision? And where was God when all of this was happening?

We’ll explore these sobering questions this week as we continue our study of the last week of Jesus’ life.

If you knew you had one week to live, what would you do with every second of precious time you had left? Who would you hang with? Where would you go?

Chances are you’d spend as much time as possible with people you love, eating food you love, doing things you love. And you might even go out on a limb and do something you always said you’d do but never did before. Like sky diving. Or then again, maybe not.

I’m guessing you’re not going to spend any of your precious time doing your least favorite chores. Like cleaning the bathroom or pulling weeds. Yet that’s kind of what Jesus did when He washed the disciples’ feet. Hard to fathom? Yes. Which makes this Sunday’s message of interest to all, because if it was that important to him, then it should be important to all of us who are trying to follow His example.

"An enthusiastic admirer." That's the most basic definition of a fan in the dictionary.

If you think about it, Jesus had - and still has - quite a few fans. Perhaps you're one of them. The problem, though, is that when He described the type of relationship that God not only wants but requires of us, "Enthusiastic Admirer" isn't one of the options. He's looking for followers, not fans.

This week we'll look at two events from the final days of Jesus' life when the question "Fan or Follower?" was essentially being asked of others. And the truth is that, whether or not we do so consciously or intentionally, we all answer this same question every day.
