Bridging the Racial Homeownership Gap

Listen Later

According to research done by the Urban Institute, “The gap in the homeownership rate between black and white families in the US is bigger today than it was when it was legal to refuse to sell someone a home because of the color of their skin.”
To break this down for us, Ali speaks with Sara Alvarado, who has spent her career advocating for fair housing and anti-racist brokerage to address racial disparities in homeownership.
Due to ongoing technical difficulties, only the second half of today’s show was archived. We apologize for the inconvenience. This version of the show starts with Ali asking Sara about her racial justice work in real estate. Thanks for listening!
Sara Alvarado is a speaker, writer, and facilitator specializing in race relations, racial justice, and real estate. She is a co-founder of Step Up: Equity Matters, a Madison-based community organization committed to creating change around inequities in the workplace and community.
