  • How About Space is Not Empty

    The video could discuss the concept of space-time foam, which is the idea that space is not a smooth and continuous entity but rather a seething ocean of black holes and wormholes flickering in and out of existence at small scales. While there is no direct evidence of space-time foam, there are reasons to take it seriously.

    While the fundamental building block of space is not known, there is reason to doubt that it is just more space. String theory and loop quantum gravity offer speculative solutions, but they are difficult to test. John Archibald Wheeler proposed the idea of spacetime foam, where at the Planck scale, spacetime becomes so curved that black holes and wormholes appear and disappear rapidly.
    The Heisenberg uncertainty principle is a foundational concept in quantum mechanics, stating that the position and momentum of a particle cannot be simultaneously known with arbitrary precision. The uncertainty principle combined with general relativity leads to spacetime foam. The precision of a measurement introduces uncertainty into the geometry of space, and as the measurement becomes more precise, the uncertainty in the geometry increases.
