The Mavericks are fortunate enough to speak with Dr. Andrew Mayo, Chief Medical Officer of St. Croix Hospice. Dr. Mayo, great grandson of the founders of the Mayo Clinic, spent many years as a family physician. When he was asked to help with hospice care, he wasn't sure as the training given to physicians is to save lives. He, like many other physicians, wondered if hospice care was giving up on someone.
As we continue with our Bright Spots series, we want to dive into the importance for all healthcare providers, especially hospice to focus on the whole person and on better collaboration with family physicians.
