Okay the title is probably longer than the episode, but Melanie drops a lot of gems in our second week of shining a spotlight on Black Women Business Owners. Inspired by her love of running and a desire to create a safe space for Black people in the wake of the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, Melanie created Black Runners of the GTA, a digital community designed to inspire, challenge, and celebrate every km (or mile) run. Melanie proudly serves as a Community Ambassador for Canada Running Series, the Toronto Pride & Remembrance Run, and as a race planning partner for the Scarborough 5K in Toronto.

In episode one, we get to talk to Amanda Nkeramihigo about the importance of rest, and how being a Black woman gives us a certain strength and perseverance that helps us in creating and running our own businesses. Amanda (she/they/we) is a Master's student in the Historical, Theoretical and Critical studies of Psychology at York University.

She is the co-founder of the Black Students Mentorship Program (est. 2021), a research assistant with Psychology's Feminist Voices ( with Dr. Rutherford) and Securing Black Futures (with Dr. Carl James).
