In May of 2021, Jacklyn Radway was shot by her ex boyfriend in her own home in front of their children. Jacklyn and her ex were together about 13 years, having 4 children together. After years of domestic abuse and infidelity, she finally decided that it was time for her to part ways and give her kids a better life. Months after moving into her next home, an unexpected fire started and burnt that house down. After living in a shelter for about three months, she finally got the keys to her own three bedroom apartment for her 6 kids. Shortly after moving in, her ex boyfriend arrived at the apartment with a bag in hand. As she asked him to help her buy some bunk beds for the kids as they had nowhere to sleep, he pulled out a gun and shot her in the chest. While her kids stood there crying, she tried to unlock the door and he held her screaming until neighbors came to the door and he fled. Jacklyn says she struggles to this day from PTSD and it affects her daily life while she’s at home and out in public. She has struggled with depression and anxiety for years now, and now along with the PTSD and disability it has made being a single mother almost impossible.
Her kids ages are 5,6,7,8 go to Caldwell along with an 17 year old daughter who attends Mckinney Boyd High School.
BriidgetheGap along with individual volunteers have come together to create an event to raise funds to support this family in need. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the family to help buy much needed furniture.
